This month I’m going to try and explain a bit about the Maya Calendar – there is so much talk about one of them at the moment.....The Calendar / Time keepers of the ancient Maya were considered like artists and they were important people and contrary to popular belief there wasn’t just one calendar, there are 3 !
They were first deciphered by Dr. Carl J. Calleman PhD, who is a biochemical scientist from Sweden; he worked for 30 years in labs performing microbiology experiments. Most of his work was investigating how pollution causes disease to proliferate.
This quotation comes from an inspiring book called ‘Oneness’ by Rasha

8 years ago he trained his attention on the Mayan calendar to see what correlations or sets of facts could be proven. What he uncovered became his new found “hobby” is changing the world and the way we look and live in it. Dr Calleman, has scientifically proven the Schedule of Creation and Evolution over the last 16.4 Billion years. (From the “Big Bang” forward) His web site is www.calleman.com .
Later Ian Lungold entered onto the scene when he discovered a simple formula to find any day on the Mayan calendar from the Gregorian calendar. There-by providing access to everyone on Earth to the Mayan calendar. Check out www.mayanmajix.com where you can see the daily calendar and put in your Gregorian birth date and find out your Maya sign and number.
| 1st Calendar : The Maya developed a sophisticated calendar. This ritual calendar used a count of 260 days, it gave each day a name, much like our days of the week. There were 20 day names, each represented by a unique symbol. The days were numbered from 1 to 13. Since there are 20 day names, after the count of thirteen was reached, the next day was numbered 1 again, making a total of 260 days that have different signs and number combinations. This sacred count calendar was in use throughout Mesoamerica for centuries, & probably started before writing was used. |

I have now written down a lot of the astrological information on each sign and number, so anyone wanting to know which sign they are can send me just their birth date (day, month and year) or what they are, having looked it up on one of the above sites. I can work out what you are and send you back the details, with a photo of the sign along with what it means and with the date when that particular combination next happens.
I have also got some wooden Maya signs that come either as necklaces or as a key rings (see photo) you can buy yours, your friends or children’s sign, as a little original gift.
2nd Calendar : The Maya also tracked a vague solar year in which they counted 365 days per year. Because they could not use fractions, the "quarter" day left over every year caused their calendar to drift with regard to the actual solar year. The 365-day year contained 18 months of (20 days) which were also given names. It had a special 5 day month (which didn’t have a name as it was considered unlucky) at the end of each year. This calendar was for farmers etc, but isn’t used much any more.
3rd Calendar : Is the most well known, it is the Long Count, and has 360 days in the year, this is the one that has all the talk about at the moment (the next new year of this calendar starts in November so I will explain more about it next month)
